Past Findings - “Unworn Clothing”

Staring back from the rack, colors ablaze. My skin falls into your comforting touch. Like a ballerina on a spindle, I twirl in the mirror, examining each and every angle of your presence on my being. Something about you speaks to me, so like a potential lover in a drunken haze, I take you home. This time, I know it will work.

As the days and occasions pass, your uncertainty lies in each extraction from the closet. Lying on my bed, patiently waiting your turn, off the hanger and onto my body. Once again, the ballerina emerges, yet her performance is lacking. Chance for stardom quickly fades and back into the closet you go.

What is it that will not allow me to set you free? Outings not yet conceived. That one perfect moment in time where the light will shine and all will see. Complements flowing like water returned with a humble smile and thank you. Victory. Too many previous pieces let go before their time arrived, only to be met with regret when that day finally came.

Back into the closet.

Wait patiently for your turn.

The name Bill Cunningham may mean nothing to you. But to many involved in fashion, he is a god. Since 1978, he has been riding his bike up and down the island of Manhattan, staking his ground on busy street corners in search of the perfect detail. Tirelessly working through the week to put together On The Street for your reading pleasure.
March of 2011 marked the release of the documentary, Bill Cunningham  New York, an in depth look into the man behind the magic. Quite the simpleton and all the while extraordinary, for any lover of personal style, this is one not to be missed.

2 very important flow charts to follow for the seasons. I am considering printing copies and handing out to offenders for future reference.

Urban Outfitters has received much backlash in the way of copying smaller designers styles for their own.

I found myself drooling over the BHDLN style (left), when I discovered it on their website almost a month ago. A lovely little swiss dotted number.

Then today, I came across Sarah Seven and her “Elope” dress (right). From Spring 2011. A lovely little swiss dotted number.

One more nail in the coffin of the Urban Outfitters empire.

Update: 5/18/12

New text on the website now shows “A Sarah Seven original”. This makes me happy that no design was stolen. Who knows, maybe someone saw my rant and decided to change the text. I’ll choose to believe that!

Need to find out how to get the Pixies on my wall!

fritesandfries:

Vinyl Desserts is a still life series from Philip Karlberg, where music inspired desserts spin at 33 RPM like records! Some of my favorites:

A Christian Sex Store (via NPR)...I've really seen it all

“We pray about things before we add them to our site,” she says. “We live our lives very openly in front of Jesus, so we just kind of pray for direction about which way he would have us go, and I have to be honest with you — he’s really surprised us. … Almost our whole entire ‘special order’ page has come about from that.”

Dildo special on the Jesus aisle…

A $3000 Vibrator?

I’m all for certain luxuries in life, but a vibrator made out of platinum or 24k gold? I wouldn’t want that anywhere near me! I wonder if Kim Kardashian has one?

Only in New Orleans does a horse have a regular bar stop…for sugarcubes.

I spotted one of these charts while scrolling through Pinterest the other day. The man behind the blog, Russell van Kraayenburg, says that he is in the process of starting a retail shop through the blog and will be offering these as prints for sale. I am patiently waiting.

We imagined ourselves the Sons of Liberty with a mission to preserve, protect and project the revolutionary spirit of rock and roll. We feared that the music which had given us sustenance was in danger of spiritual starvation. We feared it losing its sense of purpose, we feared it falling into fattened hands, we feared it floundering in a mire of spectacle, finance, and vapid technical complexity. we would call forth in our minds the image of Paul Revere, riding through the American night, petitioning the people to wake up, to take up arms. We too would take up arms, the arms of our generation, the electric guitar and the microphone.
